Meaning

Those who pressed the cane and took its sweetness early do not grieve when the dried refuse catches fire. So too, those who have taken the body's benefit with effort do not flinch when Death arrives.

Explanation

The refuse burning cannot be avoided, but the sweetness has already been taken. So with the body: its destruction is certain, but for one who has drawn the benefit it does not feel like a loss.

The word with effort matters. The benefit does not come by itself; it has to be taken.

To reflect on

One who knows the refuse will burn takes the juice first.
