Meaning
The breast's tip, the kisses, her whole body, the embrace — I knew no sign in any of them; and the mark my tender girl has made is like a herd of deer setting out along the road where the tiger roams.

விளக்கம்
பாடலின் குரல் ஒரு தாயின் குரல்; அவள் நேற்று நடந்ததை நினைத்துப் பேசுகிறாள். அணைத்தல், முத்தம், புல்லுதல் — எல்லாம் ஒரு நிறைவாகத் தோன்றியது. ஆனால் இப்போது அவை ஒரு விடைபெறுதலாகத் தெரிகின்றன.
அதனாலேயே 'இலக்கணம் யாதும் அறியேன்' என்ற சொல் வேதனையானது. அதாவது அறிகுறிகள் எல்லாம் அப்போதே அங்கு இருந்தன; கண்டவர் அறியவில்லை. இரண்டாம் பாதியில் காட்சி மாறுகிறது: கலைக்கணம், வேங்கை, ஒரு நெறி. அதாவது மகளின் துணிவு ஒரு முடிவாகத் தெரிகிறது, ஆனால் அந்த வழி ஆபத்தானது. மென்மையும் பயமும் ஒரே மூச்சில் வரும் பாடல் இது.
Explanation
The voice is a mother's, turning yesterday over in her mind. The holding, the kisses, the embrace — all of it looked like fullness. Now it reads as a farewell.
That is why the words 'I knew no sign' hurt. Every sign was there at the time; the one who looked did not read it. Then the scene changes in the second half: the herd of deer, the tiger, a path. The girl's courage now looks like a decision, and the road a dangerous one. Tenderness and dread come out of one breath in this verse.
