Explanation
In Tamil tradition every work begins by bowing to Vinayaka. Here Manavasagam Kadandar asks for His grace so that the book does not stray from the Agamas. Shaiva Siddhanta holds the Vedas as the general scripture and the Shiva Agamas as the special scripture. Vinayaka has five hands: four holding the noose, the goad, the tusk and the modakam, and the trunk with which He pours the sacred bath. 'So that bondage may end' states the aim of the book: freedom from pasam.
To reflect on
Do we remember God first when we begin a work? Does that remembrance make the purpose of the work pure?
