Meaning
A life where fortune grows, fame, courage, sound knowledge, valour, the light of many fitting arts, strength - all these come through wisdom. The Sun of Wisdom has risen so that our greatness may shine over the whole world.
Worries, meanness, pain, deceit, the misery of poverty, and baseness and fear, the greatest misery of all - these are all ghosts that roam in the darkness called ignorance. Let the new Sun of Wisdom come! Let the ghosts be gone!
Know that what grows as power in the minds of the noble, who offer everything to the gods and do righteous work, is the god of fire (Agni), and what shines every day is wisdom (the Sun). The Veda says that when these two come together, men live gathered among the race of the gods.
If we praise the Sun of Wisdom well, every effort we make will bear fruit and rise; every thought we think will easily succeed; the Sun of Wisdom will draw near to us with firm purpose and a smiling face.

Explanation
'Jnana Bhanu' was also the name of a monthly journal Bharathiyar ran in 1913, and this song is thought to have been written as its invocation. Its aim: the Sun of Wisdom will drive away the ghosts that roam in the darkness of ignorance - worry, meanness, poverty, fear.
The third stanza is the essence of the Vedic tradition. In the Veda, Agni and Surya are two forms of the one light: Agni the light of earth, Surya the light of heaven. Agni grows in the mind as power (ritual, sacrifice, action); the Sun shines as wisdom. When action and wisdom unite, man becomes divine - the Vedic basis of the Gita's harmony of karma and jnana. 'Greatest misery of all is baseness and fear' - that fear is the greatest of all sorrows is the core of Bharathiyar's song 'Achamillai, achamillai' (There is no fear).
To reflect on
Worry, meanness and fear are 'ghosts roaming in the darkness of ignorance'. What knowledge would drive out the ghost that troubles you?
