Explanation

To say one thing to a person's face and another behind their back is cowardice. 'Satyam vada, dharmam chara', speak the truth, walk in dharma, is the teacher's first counsel to the departing student in the Taittiriya Upanishad (1.11.1).
Vidura told Dhritarashtra plainly even the truths he did not want to hear. But straightness must not become harshness; Thiruvalluvar says that speaking harsh words when sweet ones are at hand is like picking unripe fruit when ripe fruit is there (Kural 100). Good speech is straight and kind together.

To reflect on

Is there a truth you hesitate to say to someone's face, and how could you say it kindly?
