Meaning

Those who never belittle the learned as men who have not understood their learning, who do not neglect their kin, and who give food, shelter and clothing to the destitute, will live as truly wise men, practised in goodness.

Explanation

The verse resets the measure of learning. Learning alone is not scholarship; feeding, sheltering and clothing the poor is its proof.

The word for practice matters. Scholarship is not a status but a training, kept alive only by doing it daily. Here learning and giving are put into a single account.

To reflect on

The proof of learning is not a degree but the meal of the poor.
