சிறுகாலை யேதமக்குச் செல்வுழி வல்சிஇறுகிறுகத் தோட்கோப்புக் கொள்ளார் - இறுகிறுகிப்பின்னறிவாம் என்றிருக்கும் பேதையார் கைகாட்டும்பொன்னும் புளிவிளங்கா யாம்.

பொருள்
இளமைக் காலத்திலேயே, தாம் செல்லப்போகும் மறுமைப் பயணத்துக்கான கட்டுச்சோற்றை (அறத்தை) இறுக்கமாகக் கட்டிக்கொள்ளாமல், 'பின்னர் பார்த்துக்கொள்வோம்' என்று இறுமாந்து இருக்கும் பேதையர், (இறுதியில்) கையால் சுட்டிக்காட்டும் பொன்னும் புளிப்பான விளாங்காய் போலப் பயனற்றதாகும்.
Meaning
Fools who do not, while still young, pack tight the provisions for the journey ahead, which is virtue, but sit back smugly saying 'we will see to it later', will find at the end that the gold they point to is as useless as a sour, unripe wood-apple.

இளமையில் அறம் செய்யாமல் 'பின்னர்' என்று தள்ளிப்போடுவோர், இறுதியில் சேர்த்த பொன்னைக் காட்டி என்ன பயன் என்று உணர்வர்.
'தோட்கோப்பு' என்ற சொல் 20ஆம் பாடலிலும் வருகிறது: மறுமைப் பயணத்துக்கான கட்டுச்சோறு.
Explanation
Those who put off doing good in youth, saying 'later', will find at the end that the gold they can point to is worthless.
