Meaning

(Disciple:) O unique First One, in whom the form of the greatly compassionate Lord, beyond speech and mind, stands without hindrance! You said that, like Pati, the soul (pasu) and the bond (pasam) are eternal. Then show me the three in the state of liberation as well.

Explanation

Shaiva Siddhanta holds that Pati, pasu and pasam are all beginningless and eternal. Then is the bond present even in liberation? If it is, how can that be liberation? This is a subtle question of Siddhanta. The next verse answers it.

To reflect on

Even if what bound us does not wholly vanish, can it be kept from ruling us?
