மாண்ட குணத்தொடு மக்கட்பே றில்லெனினும்பூண்டான் கழித்தற் கருமையால் - பூண்டமிடியென்னும் காரணத்தின் மேன்முறைக் கண்ணேகடியென்றார் கற்றறிந் தார்.

பொருள்
நல்ல குணமும் மக்கட்பேறும் மனைவிக்கு இல்லாவிட்டாலும், மணந்தவன் அவளை விட்டு நீங்குவது அரிது. ஆகவே வறுமை என்ற காரணத்தாலாவது இல்வாழ்க்கையை விட்டுத் துறவறத்தின் மேலான வழியைக் கொள் என்று கற்றறிந்தோர் சொன்னார்கள்.
Meaning
Even if a wife lacks good qualities and bears no children, a man who has married her finds it hard to leave her. So the learned said: let poverty at least be your reason to give up household life and take the higher path of renunciation.
