இளையான் அடக்கம் அடக்கம் கிளைபொருள்இல்லான் கொடையே கொடைப்பயன் - எல்லாம்ஒறுக்கும் மதுகை உரனுடை யாளன்பொறுக்கும் பொறையே பொறை.

பொருள்
இளைஞனுக்கு அடக்கம் அடக்கம்; பொருளும் கிளையும் இல்லாதவன் கொடுப்பதே கொடையின் பயன்; எல்லா அடிகளையும் தாங்கும் வலிமையுடையவனுக்கே பொறுமையே பொறுமை.
Meaning
Restraint in the young is restraint indeed; the giving of one who has neither wealth nor kin is the true fruit of giving; and forbearance is forbearance only in one who has the strength to bear every blow.
