காவா தொருவன்தன் வாய்திறந்து சொல்லும்சொல்ஓவாதே தன்னைச் சுடுதலால் - ஓவாதேஆய்ந்தமைந்த கேள்வி அறிவுடையார் எஞ்ஞான்றும்காய்ந்தமைந்த சொல்லார் கறுத்து.

பொருள்
வாயைக் காக்காதவன் சொல்லும் சொல் அவனையே இடைவிடாமல் சுடும். ஆகவே ஆய்ந்து முதிர்ந்த கேள்வி அறிவுடையார், கோபத்தில் கடுஞ்சொல் சொல்லவே மாட்டார்கள்.
Meaning
The words spoken by one who does not guard his mouth burn him without pause. So those of ripe and tested wisdom never speak harsh words in anger.
