The gods, leaving without the garland of Bhima's daughter, a nectar the ocean never yielded, saw coming towards them the great Kali, who turns the sea-girt world of roaring waves onto evil paths.
The story turns here. The gods once churned the ocean of milk and won its nectar, but this ‘nectar’ they could not win.
On their way they meet Kali, the dark deity who embodies the Kali age and stirs up gambling and strife. In the Mahabharata too, Kali and Dvapara appear at exactly this point.

Returning to heaven, the gods meet Kali on the way.
Evil can appear right after good fortune; stay watchful.
