Meaning

What is to be known becomes known, even to the dull of sight. But separation causes a great and painful sickness. So, O lord of the cool seaboard, best is not to join where parting will follow.

Explanation

The first half is about knowing, the second about parting. At first they seem unconnected.

But they are joined: it is separation after knowing that hurts. Without knowing, the parting would not be felt.

To reflect on

It is parting after knowing that hurts.
