Thinaiyanaiththae yaayinum seythanan runtaal / Panaiyanaiththaa ulluvar saanroar - panaiyanaith / Thenrum seyinum ilangkaruvi nannaata / Nanrila nanrariyaar maattu.
Meaning
A good deed as small as a millet seed is counted as vast as a palmyra by the noble; but those who know no gratitude count nothing as good, even if the help given them were as big as a palmyra tree.

Explanation
Two measures open the verse: millet and palmyra — the smallest and the largest. The noble count a small help as great; those without gratitude count even a great help as nothing.
What is being weighed here is not the size of the help but the mind of the receiver. One and the same kindness is large to one person and nothing to another. So the verse says gratitude is not an arithmetic but a way of seeing. Whoever can see the small as large is rich; whoever cannot see the large is poor. In that measure, gratitude is itself a wealth.
