Oorusey nenjsantham ullatakki onnuthalaar / Thaeraa mozhintha mozhikaettuth - thaeri / Emarenru kolvaarum kolpavae yaarkkum / Thamarallar thamutampi naar.

Meaning

Hiding a heart that works harm, the bright-browed ones speak words that do not stand; and those who hear, grow certain, and take them as their own receive only this — people who belong to their own bodies are kin to no one.

Explanation

The first line shows a contradiction: one thing in the heart, another on the tongue. 'Words that will not stand' is a fine phrase — it does not say they are lies outright; it says they will not hold. Their speech is not a building; it is what the wind carries off.

The verdict of the last line is hard: people of their own body. They are kin to no one; their only relation is with their own body. So whoever trusts them does not lose a person but a picture he had made. Learning that, and coming to one's senses, is the real lesson.

To reflect on

What the trusting man loses is not a person but a picture he had made.
