Explanation
The middle lines of this verse are read in more than one way, and the meaning given here is one reading. Arulnandiyar served the world by teaching true knowledge through works like the Sivagnana Siddhiyar. He says that even this service was the Lord's doing through him. It is Shaiva tradition that the Lord does not hold the faults of one who has received the guru's glance of grace (nayana diksha). 'The soul that has died' is the soul in which the ego has died and which has lost itself in the Lord's service.
To reflect on
Do we take pride in the good we do, or give thanks to the One who made us do it?
