There are three comparisons in the verse, and all share one shape: what a thing becomes in someone's hands. A text in the hands of an understanding man becomes knowledge; wealth in a giver's hands becomes generosity; a sword in a hero's hand becomes victory.
The design is subtle: each thing's worth depends on who receives it. So too the worth a modest woman brings is not a fixed quantity of her own; its measure is what she becomes in a household, in a circle, in a mind. That worth grows inside him as well.
