Meaning

Shall I let fools who praise women's eyes as lilies in clear water, darting carp and spears trouble my mind and make me give up my renunciation? I will walk seeing the eye for what it is: drain its fluid and it is like the hollow of a palmyra fruit scooped out with a finger.

Explanation

Poets give the eye three images; the ascetic undoes all three with one: the hollow of a scooped-out palmyra fruit.

The aim is not to hate beauty but to see the truth behind it, so the mind stays steady.

To reflect on

Look past the similes to the truth.
