Explanation

This verse says Nataraja's dance is the form of the five acts (verse 9). Creation is in the sound of the drum; preservation in the hand that says 'fear not'; dissolution in the fire; veiling in the foot planted on Muyalakan; and grace in the lifted left foot. That raised foot is praised as the 'kunchita padam'; it is what the devotee longs to reach. The form we see at Thillai shows the movement of the whole universe.

To reflect on

Can we see one dance in all the beginnings, keepings and endings of our life?
