Would anyone pour out the pure ghee from the vessel and fill it with the bitter oil of neem? O lord of the land of good slopes sweet with flowers, so it is to give up the friendship of those who understand worth and take up friendship with the dull-witted.

பாடல் ஒரு வினாவாக நிற்கிறது; அதன் விடை எளிது. ஆன்படு நெய் கலனில் இருக்கிறது. அதைக் கொட்டிவிட்டு, அதே கலனில் கசப்புள்ள வேம்பு நெய்யை ஊற்றுவாரா? யாரும் ஊற்றார்.
பிறகு ஒப்பீடு விழுகிறது. நயம் உணர்வாரின் நட்பு அந்த நெய் போன்றது — தூயது, தேவையானது, விலை உயர்ந்தது. புல்லறிவினாரோடு நட்பு வேம்பு நெய் போன்றது — கலம் ஒன்றுதான், ஆனால் உள்ளே இருப்பது கசப்பு. நட்பை மாற்றுவது என்பது கலத்தை மாற்றுவது அன்று; நிரப்புவதை மாற்றுவது. அதனாலேயே அது நஷ்டம்.
Explanation
