Meaning
Some say, 'Tell stories, write poems'; some say, 'Build many long epics'; some say, 'Write verse dramas full of portraits of all kinds of people.' But my heart, whenever it calls on Vani at morning, at evening, at any hour, wants nothing except to sing the one joy that is Mother Parashakti.
One god will say, 'Sing so that the sickness and poverty of the people of the land are crushed.' Another god will say, 'Gather the human race into one, and show dharma in song so that the whole world benefits.' Yet another will say, 'Fill music with delight and the wonder of imagination, and recite lofty, sweet poetry so that gladness swells everywhere.'
Wanting the people of the land to live well, the people of the four regions to rise high, the unique joy of song to be established and delight to be added to music, whenever I turn to Vani with the fire of love I have kindled, Mother Parashakti makes her voice heard and asks for all of poor me's poems for herself.
When I see the beauty of rain pouring down - the sky darkening, black clouds gathering, lightning like a thread darting suddenly, the wet wind roaring - and must tell how the sky pours water ceaselessly in every direction, my voice sings only: 'See, rain and wind are the work of Parashakti! Long live the Mother!'
She will not easily stand still for words; nor will she let words go anywhere else. Those who see a great flame within the dark have seen the beauty of Mother Shakti's form. When you see the light of mind within a stone, when you see what stands firm in the flood of time, when you see diamond strength in a blade of grass - Parashakti appears on this earth!

Explanation
This is the poet explaining himself. People expect many kinds of poetry from him: stories, epics, dramas. Many calls come to him like so many gods: social reform, human unity, the joy of art. Bharathiyar does not reject them; everything he wrote answered these calls.
But the conclusion is different. Whatever he sits down to write, Parashakti asks for all of it. Even when he sets out to describe the rain, the song ends 'rain and wind are the work of Parashakti'. Every subject of poetry finally arrives at the divine.
The last stanza says how Shakti is seen: flame within darkness, mind within stone, permanence within time, diamond within grass. To see the power hidden in every thing is the vision of Shakti.
