இம்மை பயக்குமால் ஈயக் குறைவின்றால்தம்மை விளக்குமால் தாமுளராக் கேடின்றால்எம்மை யுலகத்தும் யாம்காணேம் கல்விபோல்மம்மர் அறுக்கும் மருந்து.

பொருள்
கல்வி இம்மையில் பயன் தரும்; கொடுத்தால் குறைவதில்லை; தன்னை விளக்கும்; தாம் இல்லாத கேடும் இல்லை. மயக்கத்தை அறுக்கும் மருந்தைப் போல, கல்விக்கு இணையான ஒன்றை உலகில் காணோம்.
Meaning
Learning yields fruit in this life, does not lessen when given, illumines its possessor, and knows no ruin while one lives. We do not find in any world a medicine that cuts delusion as learning does.

நான்கு பண்புகள் வரிசையாக: பயன், குறையாமை, வெளிச்சம், அழியாமை. நான்கும் செல்வத்தின் பண்புகளுக்கு நேர் எதிரானவை.
செல்வம் கொடுத்தால் குறையும், மறைத்தால் அழியும். கல்வி கொடுத்தால் பெருகும், மறைக்கவும் முடியாது.
Explanation
Four properties in order: it bears fruit, it does not diminish, it gives light, it does not perish. All four are the opposite of wealth's.
Wealth shrinks when given and rots when hidden. Learning grows when given and cannot be hidden.
