Thunpam palanaal uzhanthum orunaalai / Inpamae kaamuruvar aezhaiyaar - inpam / Itaitherin thinnaamai noakki manaiyaaru / Ataivozhinthaar aanramain thaar.

Meaning

The ignorant suffer for many days and still long for one day's pleasure. Those who look closely, see the pain that lies inside pleasure and turn away from the path of household life are the truly great.

Explanation

'Ēzhaiyār' here does not mean the poor but the ignorant. They don't weigh many days of pain against one day of pleasure.

The wise weigh it and choose renunciation.

To reflect on

Many days of pain for one of pleasure: do the sum.
