'I have taken up the duty of service to the king, and I shall now fulfil his command', he said, and yoked the chariot of the horse-kind — he the garlanded king whose garland gives the flower-honey of the maidens' breasts.
The verse shows Nalan accepting his new role: a king consenting to serve as a servant, so he has let go not only office but pride.
Subtly, he will fulfil another's command, holding back his own wish and serving as duty — the humility he has reached.
Letting go of pride is true humility.
