Meaning
To live in company with those of fine understanding is like the world of the gods. But to join with those who have no fine understanding and no profit in them is one of the hells.

மறுபக்கம் வன்மையானது. அறிவு மட்டும் அல்ல, ஊதியமும் — பயனும் — இல்லாதவரோடு சேர்வது நரகத்துள் ஒன்று. விண்ணுலகும் நரகும் வெளியில் இல்லை என்று பாடல் சொல்வது போல் தெரிகிறது: அவை நாம் தேடிக் கொள்ளும் துணையில் இருக்கின்றன. ஒருவர் யாரோடு நாளைக் கழிக்கிறாரோ, அதுவே அவருக்கு வானமும் ஆகிறது, நரகமும் ஆகிறது.
Explanation
The verse puts friendship forward as something savoured, an experience lived. To be in the company of those of fine understanding is the world of the gods, because a word from such a person carries measure and grace, and life itself becomes finer.
The other side is severe. It is not only understanding that must be there; worth, real profit, must be there too. To join with those who have neither is one of the hells. The verse seems to say that heaven and hell are not places outside us: they are made in the company we choose. Whoever you spend your days with becomes your sky or your pit.
