Explanation
Maya has unfolded as the thirty-six tattvas. Now the other two malas. Anavam is the ignorance that veils the soul's knowing; it is like darkness. Karma is the pleasure and pain that come as the fruit of the soul's deeds. The three malas together are 'pasam', the bond. In Shaiva Siddhanta anavam is the root mala; maya and karma are in truth medicines the Lord gives to remove anavam. As a lamp is given to one in darkness, body and world are given to the soul lying in ignorance.

To reflect on
Can we see our pleasures and pains as medicine that ripens us?
