விருப்பம் இல்லாதார் இல்லத்தில், ஒதுங்கி அமர்ந்து உண்ணும் உணவு அந்த நெருக்கடியிலேயே கசப்பான வேம்பாக முடிகிறது. விருப்புடைய, தன்னைப் போன்றவரின் இல்லத்தில், தயங்கும் நீரையுடைய குளிர்ந்த புற்கை, நெய்யோடு கூடிய அமிழ்து.
Meaning
In the house of those who have no love for you, food eaten seated apart turns to bitter neem in that very discomfort. But in the house of the loving who are like oneself, cool gruel with its thin broth, joined with ghee, is nectar.

முந்தைய பாடலின் இணை. அங்கே யார் அளிக்கிறார் என்பது முக்கியம்; இங்கே எப்படி உட்கார்த்தி வைக்கிறார்கள் என்பதும் சேருகிறது. 'வேறு இருந்து உண்ணும்' என்ற தொடர் தனிமையின் வடிவம். ஒரே வீட்டில் இருந்தும் ஒதுக்கி அமர்த்தப்பட்டால், அது விருந்து அல்ல; அந்த நெருக்கடியே உணவின் சுவையைக் கசக்க வைக்கிறது.

Explanation
Companion to the verse before it. There, who serves mattered; here, how you are seated joins it. 'Eating seated apart' is the very shape of loneliness. In the same house yet set apart, it is no feast; the discomfort itself turns the taste bitter.
In the second half the scale is overturned. Thin broth is the watery liquid of a plain gruel — the food of poverty. In the house of one who is like oneself it is nectar with ghee stirred in. Not the quality of the food, but the place you are allowed to sit.
