நீரினும் நுண்ணிது நெய்யென்பார், நெய்யினும்யாரும் அறிவர் புகைநுட்பம் - தேரின்நிரப்பிடும்பை யாளன் புகுமே, புகையும்புகற்கரிய பூழை நுழைந்து.

பொருள்
நீரைவிட நெய் நுண்ணியது என்பர்; நெய்யைவிடப் புகை நுண்ணியது என்பது யாவரும் அறிவர். ஆராய்ந்தால், வறுமைத் துன்பம் உடையவன் புகையும் புக முடியாத இடத்திலும் (இரந்து) புகுவான்.
Meaning
They say ghee is subtler than water, and everyone knows smoke is subtler than ghee. But look closely: a man in the grip of want will force his way, begging, even into places where smoke itself cannot enter.
