தான்கெடினும் தக்கார்கே டெண்ணற்க தன்உடம்பின்ஊன்கெடினும் உண்ணார்கைத் துண்ணற்க - வான்கவிந்தவையக மெல்லாம் பெறினும் உரையற்கபொய்யோடு இடைமிடைந்த சொல்.

பொருள்
தான் கெட்டாலும் தகுதியுடையோருக்குக் கேடு நினைக்காதே. உடலின் சதை வற்றினாலும், உண்ணத் தகாதவர் கையில் உண்ணாதே. வானம் கவிந்த உலகம் முழுவதும் கிடைத்தாலும், பொய் கலந்த சொல்லைச் சொல்லாதே.
Meaning
Even if you are ruined, never plot harm to the worthy. Even if your flesh wastes away, do not eat from the hands of the unworthy. Even if you could win the whole world under the vault of the sky, do not speak a word mixed with falsehood.

மூன்று உறுதிமொழிகள், மூன்று விலைகள்: தன் கேடு, தன் பசி, உலகம் முழுவதும். எந்த விலையிலும் மூன்றையும் விடக் கூடாது.
அரிச்சந்திரன் நாடு, மனைவி, மகன் எல்லாவற்றையும் இழந்தும் பொய் சொல்லவில்லை. அந்த உறுதியையே இப்பாடல் கேட்கிறது.
Explanation
Three vows, three prices: your own ruin, your hunger, the whole world. None of the three should be broken at any price.
Harishchandra lost his kingdom, wife and son and still would not lie. This verse asks for that same firmness.
