Meaning
As the vowel 'a' stands in every letter, We stand pervading as the life of all lives. The good Agama declares that where We do not stand, knowledge does not stand in the soul. Examine this and know.

Explanation
The Thirukkural begins: 'As all letters have the letter a as their first, so the world has the eternal Lord as its first.' In Tamil every consonant sounds only with 'a': k plus a gives ka. Without 'a' a consonant cannot be voiced. In the same way the soul does not know without the Lord. The Lord and the soul are distinct yet inseparable: this is Meykandar's most famous image for the advaita of Siddhanta (Sivagnana Bodham, second sutra).
To reflect on
Do we remember the Lord who stands in every breath of ours, as 'a' stands in every letter?
