From the Mahabharata (Adi Parva)Shukracharya and Kacha
From the Mahabharata. Shukracharya, preceptor of the asuras, alone knew the sanjivani mantra that restores the dead to life. To learn it, the gods sent Kacha, son of Brihaspati, to become his disciple. Shukra's daughter Devayani came to love Kacha. The asuras killed Kacha again and again, and each time, at Devayani's plea, Shukra revived him. At last they killed and burned him, mixed his ashes into wine, and gave it to Shukra himself, who drank it. When Devayani wept for Kacha, Shukra searched and found him inside his own body. With no other way, he taught the sanjivani to Kacha within him. Kacha burst forth and, with the mantra he had just learned, revived his teacher. Seeing how wine had deceived him, Shukra declared that day that drinking would henceforth be a grave sin for a Brahmin.
