Srimad Bhagavatam, Seventh CantoNarasimha and Prahlada
From the Srimad Bhagavatam, Seventh Canto. The boy Prahlada praised Vishnu without pause, unafraid of the threats of his father Hiranyakashipu. Through poison, elephants, fire and being thrown from a cliff, the Lord protected him.
At last Hiranyakashipu demanded, "Is your God in this pillar?" and struck it. Narasimha burst forth from the pillar and, at twilight, on the threshold, upon his lap, struck Hiranyakashipu down.
Afterwards, while Narasimha's fury had not yet subsided, even the gods feared to approach. Only Prahlada went near with love and bowed. Narasimha placed his hand on the boy's head and blessed him. The Lord always protected the one who praised him.
