Explanation

Stand so as to win honour. Honour is not mere fame; it is the dignity that comes from standing with courage and a sense of duty.

Winning alone is not honour. Facing a challenge honestly and bravely is true glory.

Mahabharata, Drona Parva

Abhimanyu and the Chakravyuha

From the Mahabharata, Drona Parva. On the thirteenth day of the war, Drona formed the formidable Chakravyuha. Arjuna was far away fighting elsewhere. On the Pandava side, the only one who knew how to break into that formation was Arjuna's sixteen-year-old son Abhimanyu, but he did not know the way out.

When Yudhishthira asked him, Abhimanyu accepted without hesitation: "I will break in; you follow me." He pierced the formation and entered, but Jayadratha held back the others, and he was left alone.

Alone he fought many great chariot-warriors; when his bow broke he fought with a sword, and when that broke, with a chariot wheel. Only when many attacked him together, against the rules of war, did he fall. Though he was defeated, it was Abhimanyu who stood in honour that day.
