Sthala Purana of ThirukkadaiyurAbirami Born from Vishnu's Ornaments
From the sthala purana of Thirukkadaiyur. After the gods obtained the nectar, Shiva appeared as Amritaghateswarar where the nectar pot had stood (the story of the kaappu verse). At that time Vishnu came to worship Shiva.
The sthala purana says that to show his love for Shiva, Vishnu took off all the ornaments he wore and offered them. From those shining ornaments together a goddess appeared, beauty itself. 'Abhiramam' means a beauty that captivates the heart, so she was called Abirami.
She who came from the ornaments of lotus-eyed Vishnu still sits at Thirukkadaiyur with lotus eyes, a lotus face, lotus hands and lotus feet. She is the same Abirami before whom Bhattar bowed, saying 'apart from these, I have found no refuge'.
