Meaning

He has begun to dance; listen, I will tell you. She who held back, as if she did not worship the Lord of Kurugur, now whirls round and round in a circle, dancing. Can those who see that beauty ever come away unchanged? You who know true taste, go quickly! Once this curtain is drawn aside, you will never be able to go back to your own towns!

Explanation

This is set like a scene from a play. A dance begins, and the poet warns the audience: 'If you watch this, you will never go back.'

It is an image for the experience of the Alvar's grace. One who has tasted it once does not return to the old life. Addressing the audience as 'you who know taste' is subtle: the danger is only for those with true taste; they are the ones who will never return.

Srimad Bhagavatam, Book 10, Chapters 29-33

The Rasa Dance in the Moonlight

From the Srimad Bhagavatam. It was a full-moon night in autumn. On the bank of the Yamuna in Vrindavan, Krishna played his flute. Hearing it, the gopis left whatever they were doing and came running: one boiling milk, one feeding her child, one dressing herself; all of them came.

Krishna tested them first: 'It is night; go back to your homes.' The gopis said through their tears: 'Our feet refuse to move a single step away from yours. How can we go back?'

Then Krishna stood with them in a circle and danced the Rasa dance. Beside every gopi there was a Krishna. The gods and their wives gathered in their sky-chariots to watch. That dance from which there is no going home is what Kambar means: 'once the curtain is drawn aside, you cannot go back'.
