Meaning

If those who give take the askers as calves and stand as the cow, then mother and calf stay close together and generosity flows of its own accord. The base are otherwise: they yield only when the milk is squeezed hard from the udder.

Explanation

The image is a familiar one: cow and calf. What matters here is not the picture but 'without strain' — the absence of effort. When giver and receiver simply meet, the giving runs by itself, and nobody has to squeeze.

A second point follows, about pressing. The base do not give out of nature; they yield a little only when pressed. This is a practical truth: when a heart opens freely, the bond between people grows easy, whereas a yielding forced out by pressure wears that bond tired.

To reflect on

A heart that opens on its own keeps the bond easy; a forced one grows weary.
