Meaning
If You say that when my two kinds of karma stood in balance, You made the malas stand apart and entered me by the way of grace, then, O Guru who removed the three malas, that great state must be Your being with me, inseparable. If You say that because of the three malas You were not within me, then there would be neither the falling away of the malam nor the reaching of the shade of Your red lotus feet; the soul would cling to what it leans on and never move. If You say there is no cure except what fits the karma already gathered, then maya, karma and anavam would never perish, birth from maya would go on without end, and the ancient teaching that 'unless the two karmas are equal one cannot reach You' would not fit either. Shall I say You stood in the heart of this dog of a servant, or did not? Shall I say the malam perished, or did not? Tell me one, O Lord of Vennai with its fields watered by the Pennai! O Meykanda Deva, who with a body of hands, eyes, head, mouth, feet, ears and nose tore my karma out by the root! O You without karma, dark-throated One, my faultless wisdom!

Explanation
This is a question about shaktinipatam, the descent of grace. In Shaiva Siddhanta three things come together: iruvinai oppu, an even mind toward good and bad karma alike; malaparipakam, the ripening of the anava malam; and shaktinipatam, the falling of the Lord's grace on the soul. Then the Lord comes as guru. The disciple's doubt is whether the Lord was not within before. The answer: the Lord was always within, but stood hidden (as tirodhana) and fed the soul its karma. When ripeness came, the same Lord was revealed and gave grace. The change is not in the Lord but in the soul's condition. 'With a body of hands, eyes, head, mouth, feet, ears and nose' is an outpouring of gratitude: it was the guru, come in a human body, who uprooted the karma.
To reflect on
Can we look on the joy and the sorrow that come to us with an even eye? Do we see that this evenness is where grace descends?
