Meaning

Other than falling at the red feet of him whose hand gleams with the spear, and seeing him here in the rapture of love, how can one describe that Being who is hard to reach by mind, speech or action, who is both formless and with form, and yet remains as One?

Explanation

Murugan is that Supreme Being the Upanishads call 'unreachable by mind and speech'. It cannot be described; the poet says it can only be seen by falling at his feet and melting in love.

From the Kena Upanishad

The Yaksha and Uma Haimavati

After a victory the gods grew proud, thinking 'we have won'. Then a mysterious Yaksha appeared. Agni could not burn a blade of grass before it; Vayu could not move it. As Indra approached, the Yaksha vanished, and in its place appeared the radiant Uma Haimavati, who said, 'That was Brahman; your victory was its victory.' It was the Mother's grace that revealed the Supreme.
