Meaning
When abundance has left and food and living have shrunk, a man takes off the bangles that once filled his arms and pawns them; he eats boiled greens without salt and lives a life his heart does not consent to. That is the season when all his plenty has dried away.

Explanation
The scene is inside a house, but it marks a change of season. Bangles once pressed close on the arms — that was the sign of plenty. A day comes when they are slipped off and pledged. So the ornament was never decoration; it was the last reserve.
Then the food: greens boiled without salt. A missing pinch of salt sounds small, yet it is the sign that there is no salt left in the house. And last, a life the heart does not consent to. So the verse shows three steps of want: the ornament goes, the taste goes, and the mind refuses to agree to what is left.
