Srimad Bhagavatam, Book 10The Umbrella of Govardhana
From the Srimad Bhagavatam. Every year the people of Gokula held a festival for Indra. The boy Krishna said, 'It is Govardhana hill and our cows that give us food, water and grass. Let us worship them.' The people did so.
Enraged, Indra sent seven days of ceaseless storm and torrential rain. The frightened people and cattle ran to Krishna. Krishna lifted the whole of Govardhana hill on one finger and held it up like an umbrella.
For seven days all of Gokula stayed safe under that mountain roof. Indra realised his mistake and bowed. God himself showed how precious shelter is in a harsh season.
