O rich radiance dwelling on the holy hill of Thiruchengode! O heavenly one bearing the sharpened spear! I will never forget you. Before this house of a body collapses, a house built for the five senses to dwell in, with two legs for pillars and two arms laid upon them, come and protect me!
உடல் ஒரு தற்காலிக வீடு; கால்கள் தூண்கள், கைகள் உத்திரங்கள். அது விழுவது உறுதி. அதற்கு முன் இறைவனைச் சரணடைய வேண்டும் என்று அருணகிரிநாதர் அவசரத்தோடு வேண்டுகிறார்.
The body is a temporary house: the legs are pillars, the arms are beams. Its fall is certain. Arunagirinathar pleads urgently to take refuge in the Lord before that happens.
காவிரிப்பூம்பட்டினத்தில் பெருவணிகனாக வாழ்ந்தவர் திருவெண்காடர். அவர் வளர்த்த மகன் மருதவாணன் ஒரு நாள் மறைந்தான்; விட்டுச் சென்ற பெட்டியில் ஒரு காதற்ற ஊசியும், "காதற்ற ஊசியும் வாராது காண் கடைவழிக்கே" என்ற ஓலையும் இருந்தன. அதைப் படித்த கணமே அவர் செல்வம் அனைத்தையும் துறந்து பட்டினத்தார் என்ற துறவி ஆனார். உடல் என்னும் வீடு விழும் முன் விழித்தவர் அவர்.
Thiruvenkadar was a great merchant of Kaveripoompattinam. One day his adopted son Marudhavanan vanished, leaving a box holding only a needle with a broken eye and a palm leaf: 'Even an eyeless needle will not follow you on the final road.' The moment he read it, he gave up all his wealth and became the renunciate Pattinathar. He awoke before the house of the body fell.
