Explanation
This asks how past karma returns as fruit. The deed is over; it is insentient; and the soul has no knowledge to bring it back. Shaiva Siddhanta says the Lord, by His power, holds the karmas and gives the right fruit at the right time. This is not punishment but so that the soul may live through and exhaust its karma and come to ripeness. 'The red hand where the deer rests' refers to the form in which Lord Shiva holds the deer sent against Him by the sages of the Daruka forest.
To reflect on
We think our deeds are over and done. If we remembered they will return to us, how would we act today?
