Explanation
The eye has the power to see, yet without the sun's light it does not see. The sun shows both itself and things to the eye. In the same way the Lord stands within the soul's awareness and makes known to it both things and Himself. The soul's knowing is 'assisted' knowing, knowing with the Lord's help. This is also the answer to the question in the eighth agaval of Irupa Irupathu. The Lord's form is not an object seen apart by the eye; it is the light that stands as the awareness of awareness.
To reflect on
Each time we say 'I understand', do we think of the light that shone within?
