Explanation

This is the nool payan, the verse on the fruit of the book. It stands apart from the andhadhi chain and tells what readers of the book will gain. It begins with the simple, loving word 'Aatthaal', the word for mother in Tamil villages.

Each line ends with the sound '-tthaalai': aatthaalai, poothaalai, kaatthaalai, serthaalai. The one who bore the worlds, who protects them, who holds her weapons: for those who worship her there is no harm at all. This is Bhattar's final promise to the world, and even today many people close their recitation with this verse.

Thirukkadaiyur tradition (the Amritaghateswarar and Abirami temple)

The Couples Who Come to Thirukkadaiyur for Long Life

From the tradition of Thirukkadaiyur. Thirukkadaiyur is where the Lord kicked away Yama to save Markandeya, and where Mother Abirami made the moon rise in the new-moon sky for her devotee Bhattar. It is a place of grace that conquered both death and darkness.

That is why, even today, couples from all over Tamil Nadu come to Thirukkadaiyur to celebrate their sixtieth birthday (Shashtiabdapoorthi), their seventieth, and their eightieth (Sathabhishekam). Surrounded by children and grandchildren, they worship Amritaghateswarar and Mother Abirami and pray for long life and well-being. On that day many sing Abirami Andhadhi and close with this verse on the fruit of the book.

In the place where the Lord saved Markandeya from Death and the Mother saved Bhattar from the fire, the promise 'for those who worship her, there is no harm at all' gives hope from generation to generation.
