Kena UpanishadUma Haimavati Reveals the Secret to Indra
From the Kena Upanishad. The gods won a battle. Forgetting that the victory came through the power of Brahman, they rejoiced, saying, 'This glory is ours.' Then a mysterious presence appeared before them.
Agni went near. The presence placed a blade of grass before him and said, 'Burn this.' He could not. Vayu could not even stir it. When Indra approached, the presence vanished, and in that very place appeared Uma Haimavati, daughter of the Himalaya, shining with golden beauty.
She told Indra, 'That was Brahman. Your victory was its victory.' The Mother Uma was the first to tell the secret that even the gods did not know. When Bhattar sings 'I have come to know the secret no one knows', he means that same knowledge, given by her grace.
