Brahmanda Purana, LalitopakhyanaBala Defeats the Sons of Bhanda
From the Lalitopakhyana. A great war was fought between the army of Lalita and that of Bhandasura. Bhanda sent his thirty sons into battle, and they fought with deceitful illusions.
Then Bala Tripurasundari, Lalita's daughter, a girl of nine, stepped forward: 'I will go.' The Mother hesitated, then allowed it. Little Bala rode a chariot drawn by swans and with her arrows defeated all thirty sons of Bhanda in a single day.
The bow in a gentle girl's hand made the deceitful tremble. In this verse Bhattar shows us Tripurasundari's form, in which sweet speech and fearsome strength are one.
