Explanation

The previous verse ended 'and the sky'; this begins 'the sky'. Shiva is the one who burnt Kama, the great ascetic beyond desire. How could a son be born to him? Bhattar answers: it was the Mother's power.

There is a lovely play of numbers in 'three fours and two threes': three times four is twelve arms, two times three is six faces. He calls Murugan 'the son of ancient wisdom', the child of wisdom who explained the meaning of Om to his own father. The inner sense is that when austerity and love come together, wisdom is born.

Kanda Puranam of Kachiyappa Sivachariyar, the birth of Skanda

The Six Babies of Saravana Become One

From the Kanda Puranam of Kachiyappa Sivachariyar. The gods suffered under the cruelty of Surapadman, who had a boon that only a son of Shiva could destroy him. But Shiva was in deep meditation, and Kama, who came to wake him, was turned to ash.

Later, won by Parvati's penance, Shiva married her. Moved by the prayers of the gods, Shiva released six sparks from his third eye. Vayu and Agni carried them to the Ganga, and the Ganga carried them to the Saravana pond. There they blossomed as six babies on six lotuses, and the six Krittika maidens nursed them.

Then Mother Parvati came and gathered all six babies into one embrace. At that moment they became one child with six faces and twelve arms. He is Skanda, the six-faced one. That is why Bhattar says, 'O creeper-like Mother, it was your power.'
