Meaning

O Kanda, who fought the mountain into dust! Will you grant me the art of wisdom that nothing that strays can reach? My mind lies bound in the net of women whose eyes, like daggers and spears, twist and drink the life of those burning with great desire, to sate their hunger.

Explanation

The poet hides none of his weakness. The mind is caught in a net; wisdom is needed to free it, and it is Murugan who gives that wisdom.

From the Shuka tradition

Shuka and Rambha

Shuka, Vyasa's son, was free of attachment from birth. To test him, the celestial beauty Rambha came and sang the delights of worldly pleasure. To every verse Shuka calmly replied, 'A life that does not remember the Lord is wasted.' Defeated, Rambha bowed and left. No net can bind one who has the art of wisdom.
