Meaning

O nephew of Vishnu, who planted the mountain, took the serpent as his rope and churned the ocean until the very sky spun like a top! O ruby who rides the peacock! Will there be a time when you end my being born, wandering and dying, make me one with you, rule me and bless me?

Explanation

The hint: let the nephew of Vishnu, who churned the milk ocean for nectar, churn the ocean of our births and give us the nectar of liberation. The address 'ruby who rides the peacock' is especially sweet.

From the Srimad Bhagavatam, Book 8

The churning of the milk ocean

To win the nectar of immortality, gods and asuras together churned the milk ocean, using Mount Mandara as the churning rod and the serpent Vasuki as the rope. When the mountain sank, Vishnu became a tortoise and bore it up. First the deadly Halahala poison rose, and Shiva drank it to save the world. Then came Lakshmi, Kamadhenu, and at last the nectar. Vishnu, as Mohini, gave the nectar to the gods. Poison first, nectar later: that is true of the spiritual journey too.

To reflect on

In your journey, has the 'poison' come before the nectar?
