Meaning

The fields and groves of Thiruchendur were churned by leaping carp. The hearts of flower-like maidens were undone by love for his honey-filled kadamba garland. The sea, Sura and the mountain were undone by the spear of the Lord of the great peacock. And here, by the touch of his feet, the writing Brahma wrote upon my head was undone.

Explanation

Tradition says Brahma writes our fate upon our heads. That Murugan's feet can erase that writing is among the most hopeful lines in the Alankaram. Grace conquers the fear that fate cannot change.

From the tradition of Swamimalai

Brahma who did not know Om

One day when Brahma came to Kailasa, the child Murugan asked him, 'What is the meaning of Om?' Brahma could not say. 'The creator does not know the source of creation?' said Murugan, imprisoned him and took up creation himself. When Shiva came to ask, Murugan taught the meaning of the Pranava into his father's ear, and so became Swaminatha. For one who humbled Brahma himself, erasing Brahma's writing is easy.
